Anna Lucille Pryor Ireland, the eldest of three daughters of Fred and Edith Spradling Pryor,

Following graduation she attended Brown’s Business College in St. Louis and worked in St. Louis until she married Charles “Kelly” Ireland. They had two daughters—Sandra Kay and Pamela Ann. They celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary in July of 2016. Lucille started teaching business subjects at the Mulberry Grove high school during World War II, attending Greenville College nights and summers for ten years to gain a BS in Education. She went on to attend the University of Illinois summers to gain a master’s degree and then Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville, for many hours, stopping short of a doctorate. While at the U of I she was initiated into Delta Pi Epsilon. She later also became a member of Delta Kappa Gamma.

Upon Kelly’s return from WWII, they moved to Sorento where Kelly had a Firestone store and auto repair. She taught in Sorento for two years then back to teach at Mulberry Grove while Kelly was in the Korean War. They moved to Greenville in 1955 to teach in the new Bond County Unit Two high school building. Electric typewriters were just coming into use. She was named Advisor of the Year by Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, in 1966 .

It was during this time that she started the officer line-up in the Illinois Business Education Association, serving as president in 1963. She started a state-wide newsletter and served as editor for 25 years. Called by the Illinois Superintendent of Public Education, she served as a writing/layout member to prepare two curriculum guides for business education in the State of Illinois. She was often a consultant or panelist for many programs of the Illinois Business Education Association. Writings on curriculum approaches appeared in the Illinois Vocational Progress and Journal of Business Education, state and national magazines. In 1969 she was the first secondary teacher to receive IBEA’s Distinguished Service Award.

She received the Greenville College Award of Recognition in 1979, and their Presidential Award in 1988. In 2003 she, along with her husband, was granted the Gerald Turley Award by the Greenville Chamber of Commerce. It was at this time she served several years as president of the Greenville Women’s Club and saw many changes in city beautification.

Lucille and Kelly left Greenville High School in 1980 to operate K-I Management, a real estate and property management firm in Highland, Illinois, which kept them occupied until the year 2000.
