Obituary for Donald M. Roach

Donald M. Roach, age 77 of Mulberry Grove, passed away at his home at 2:22 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2018.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 5, 2018 at the Mulberry Grove Church of Christ with Pastors Randy Whitehead and Glenda Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in Maxey Cemetery with Full Military Honors by American Legion Post # 1180 of Mulberry Grove. Friends may call at the church from 4 until 8 p.m. Friday with Masonic Services by Gilham Masonic Lodge # 809 A.F. & A.M.

Donald Marion Roach, the son of Marion Franklin Roach and Lorene Ellen Gaffner Roach, was born on January 30, 1941 on the Roach farm in Pleasant Mound Township. He grew up on the Roach farm and attended the Seagraves and Smithboro schools graduating from Mulberry Grove High School with the class of 1959. Don worked at Bauer's Fur then answered his country's call by joining the United States Army on November 20, 1963 in St. Louis, MO raising to the rank of Sp-4, serving overseas 1 year, being honorably discharged on November 16, 1965 at Fort Lewis, Washington. Don returned to the farm near Mulberry Grove where he was a truck driver for two years. Don then joined the Illinois State Highway Department working for 30 years before his retirement. He also farmed all those years. Don love to hunt and fish. Don was a member of the Gilham Masonic Lodge # 809 A.F. & A.M., Ainad Shrine of East St. Louis, Il. and the Mulberry Grove Church of Christ.

Don and Betty J. MaHaney were united in marriage on February 15, 1967 at the Carlyle Court House and enjoyed over 11 years together before her death on August 30, 1978. They had two children, Carla (Tom) White and Donald E Roach.

He is preceded in death by his son Donald E. Roach on August 21, 2015.
Don is survived by children Carla (Tom) White, grandchildren; Christopher (Brie) LaMacchia, Mary Beth LaMacchia, Mikayla Roach, Dane Roach, and Braedon Roach, four great grandchildren, along with several step children and grandchildren.

Don and Carole A Newcum were united in marriage on April 5, 1980 in Coffeen and she preceded Don’s death on March 17, 2011.

Donald and Joyce E Wilson were united in marriage on September 1, 2012 and the Mulberry Grove Baptist Church and she survives.

Don is also survived by three brothers: Marvin (Yvonne) Roach of Mulberry Grove, Merlin (Sandy) Roach of Vandalia, and Martin (Cindy) Roach of Smithboro.

For those who desire memorials in Don's memory may be made to the Bond County Shrine Club, Bond County Christian Church Camp or to St. Jude's Hospital at the church or at Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home.
